LED UV technology ultraviolet light in 3D printing application

In recent years, a cool new term has appeared in front of everyone: 3D printing. Although 3D printing is still far from everyone's life, through 3D printing technology, it is possible to successfully "print" unmanned aircraft, bicycles, cars and other physical objects. For example, the interior parts of automobiles, wheels, headlights, steering wheels, gear levers, bumpers and many other workpieces have been applied to 3D printing technology, and 3D printing has gradually been recognized by everyone.

3D printing technology (3D printing) refers to the technology of generating three-dimensional entities by adding materials layer by layer through continuous physical layer superposition, which integrates the frontiers of mathematical modeling technology, electromechanical control technology, information technology, material science and chemistry, etc. Technical knowledge, with high technological content.

UV light curing has an important application in 3D printing. It mainly uses ultraviolet light to scan the surface of the liquid photosensitive resin, each time a certain thickness of thin layer is generated, and the object is generated layer by layer from the bottom. The 3D printing of UV light curing is completed by polymer jet technology (polyjet).

The picture shows the structure of the polymer injection system:

The jet print head moves back and forth along the X axis. The working principle is very similar to that of an inkjet printer. The difference is that the nozzle ejects not ink but photopolymer. When the photopolymer material is sprayed onto the worktable, the UV lamp will move along The working direction of the nozzle emits UV light to cure the photosensitive polymer material.

After the jet printing and curing of one layer is completed, the built-in worktable of the equipment will drop the molding layer thickness extremely accurately, and the nozzle will continue to eject the photosensitive polymer material for printing and curing of the next layer. Repeated work until the entire workpiece is printed and manufactured.

The advantage is that the utilization rate of raw materials is nearly 100%, the dimensional accuracy is high (±0.1mm), the surface quality is excellent, and the model with very complex structure can be made. The disadvantage is that the available materials are limited, which makes the price relatively expensive.

But with the development of new raw materials and the advancement of UV technology and even UV-LED technology, 3D printing technology will be applied to a wider range of fields.
